Case 25 - Pyelonephritis

This is another case of pyelonephritis, this time bilateral.  There are striated nephrograms in both kidneys.  Some of the radial areas of hypoattenuation are thin and whispy.  Others are large and chunky.  Both types extend into the cortex.  Pyelonpehritis produces both appearances.  In this case there is no perinephric stranding.  There is no renal enlargement.

Notice the normal appearance of the cervix in this young woman.  There is also a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis.  In a young premenopausal woman this is just normal, physiologic fluid.  This most likely has nothing to do with her pyelonephritis.
